Egypt, If the art denounces the problems of country
Venice – Enas Elkorashy (1986) is the only one of the five artists of “ First Egyptian collective of Contemporary Art in Venice” who doesn’t live in Egypt, but moved to Venice five years ago. The idea of this exhibition was born from her, but it has taken a completely unexpected direction. Enas had contacted the curator Daniella P. Bacigalupo for a personal exhibition that became progressively a collective, adding to it two more young artists - Aya Elfallah (1986) and Ahmed Kassim (1984) - and two mature artists. Among them, Reda Abedelrahman, who has influenced Egyptian art, involving them in the political fear, and for this occasion has exhibited "I'm All". Four portraits with symbols of different religious denominations, that emphasize the innate concept of freedom, identity and uniqueness. And Eldessouki Ibrahim, a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University in Cairo, as well as a teacher of Enas, Aya and Ahmed. The exhibition was an opportunity for the audience to learn an art that is not only a reflection of the mood of the authors but for them, an opportunity for courageous denunciation of the problems of their country. The political protest expressed - according to the dictates of classical art by the two mature artists and the established comtemporary techniques by the three young people - has produced to date in Egypt, the phenomenon of the graffiti: unwritten, but real works of art to give messages. These - says Enas - are regularly cleared by the government, yet then rebuilt by new artists, risking jail.
